Sites your marketers can edit without filing a ticket

CMS website development is building a marketing site on a content platform your team can operate: a custom component library with constrained fields, so an editor can compose new pages without breaking layouts or waiting for a developer. Typical builds run six to ten weeks including migration and redirects.

Who this is for

You probably need this if…

If none of these sound familiar, you may not need us yet, and we would rather say so now.

  • Every copy change needs a developer and a two week queue.

  • Your theme came from a marketplace and every page looks like the template it is.

  • Page speed scores are red and nobody owns the fix.

  • Editors break the layout whenever they touch a page.

  • Nobody remembers which of the 38 plugins is load bearing.

Scope

What's included in cms website development

Every item below is a deliverable with an owner and a date, not a capability we happen to have.

  • 01

    Platform selection

Headless, HubSpot CMS or WordPress, chosen on who maintains the site and what data it shares. We will argue for the one that fits, including when that is not the one you asked for.

  • 02

    Component library

Fifteen to twenty five reusable blocks with sensible field constraints, so new pages are composition rather than development.

  • 03

    Performance budget

A JavaScript and LCP budget enforced in CI. The build fails if a change exceeds it, which is the only version of a performance budget that survives a year.

  • 04

    SEO foundation

Semantic markup, structured data, image optimisation and a technical audit before design rather than after launch.

  • 05

    Migration and redirects

Content moved from whatever it lives in now with a complete 301 map, including query string and pagination edge cases.

  • 06

    Editor training

A recorded walkthrough and a written component reference, so the marketing team is self sufficient on day one.

Process

How a cms websites project runs

6 stages over 6 to 10 weeks. You get a written plan before stage one, and a named owner on our side throughout.

  1. Content and SEO audit

    Weeks 1 to 2

We crawl the existing site, map what ranks, and decide what gets migrated, merged or retired before any design happens.

  2. Information architecture

    Week 2

Sitemap, URL structure and template inventory. Getting this right keeps the component library small instead of sprawling.

  3. Design

    Weeks 3 to 5

A design system and key templates reviewed against real copy rather than placeholder text.

  4. Build

    Weeks 5 to 8

Components and templates built and reviewed page by page in a staging environment.

  5. QA and performance

    Week 9

Cross browser QA, accessibility checks against WCAG 2.2 AA, and a Lighthouse pass that must clear the budget before launch is scheduled.

  6. Launch and redirects

    Week 10

Cutover, 301 map deployed, Search Console submitted, then four weeks of ranking monitoring.

Timeline and cost

CMS and Marketing Website Development starts at $14,000 and typically takes 6 to 10 weeks. Includes migration, 301 mapping and editor training.

That figure is a starting point, not an estimate we revise upward later. The first week of every engagement is a scoping week that ends with a fixed fee and a fixed date. If the scope turns out to be smaller than we assumed, the fee goes down.

We do not bill by the hour for project work. Hourly billing pays us to be slow, and it makes your budget a function of our efficiency rather than of your requirements.

FAQ

CMS website development questions

Direct answers. If yours is not here, ask us and we will add it.

Which CMS should I use?

Headless, such as Sanity or Payload, when developers own the front end and content feeds several surfaces. HubSpot CMS when marketing owns the site and CRM attribution matters more than flexibility. WordPress when you need the plugin ecosystem or a large content library. The maintainer decides this, not the feature list.

Will my rankings survive a migration?

They will if it is done properly. We crawl the existing site first, build a complete URL to URL 301 map including query string and pagination cases, preserve titles, descriptions and structured data, then monitor Search Console for four weeks. Rankings typically dip for one to two weeks and recover.

How much does a CMS website cost?

Custom builds run from $14,000 for a focused marketing site to $60,000 and up for multi language sites with dynamic directories and gated content. Marketplace theme implementations cost less and produce the templated result they are designed to produce.

Can our marketing team edit pages without a developer?

That is the point of the build. Every template is assembled from constrained components, so an editor can add a section, swap an image or launch a page without touching code and without breaking the layout, because the field constraints prevent it.

A short call, no deck. We will tell you what we would do, roughly what it costs, and whether you actually need us, sometimes the answer is that you do not.
